A Broadbent Institute media advisory announces that progressive leaders from across the Americas will convene in Toronto to discuss AI and digital sovereignty ahead of the 2026 Panamerican Congress (Montevideo, August 21–23). A closed-door, all-day workshop is set for Thursday, July 9 at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, bringing together progressive parliamentarians and experts from Canada, Chile, the United States, Mexico, and other countries.
The day culminates in a public event at Toronto Metropolitan University’s Sears Atrium at 6pm EDT, “A Progressive Vision for AI & Digital Sovereignty?”, featuring remarks by Canada’s NDP Leader Avi Lewis alongside Chile’s former Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation Aisén Etcheverry, Center for International Policy president Nancy Okail (USA), and Broad Front Deputy Sigrid Segura (Costa Rica). The workshop is co-organized by the Broadbent Institute, Rumbo Colectivo (Chile), and the Panamerican Congress, and is the third preparatory gathering following sessions in Rio de Janeiro and Santiago. The public event will be livestreamed.
