NDP's Davies introduces bill requiring any floor-crossing MP to run in a byelection

CBC News video clip (1:14), June 2, 2026.

NDP MP Don Davies introduced a bill to Parliament on Tuesday that would require any MP who crosses the floor to “a caucus other than with the party that they were elected for” to seek voter approval in a byelection.

If an MP believes that they have valid reasons for crossing the floor, then they should have no problem putting that argument to the test of their voters.
