Scope Research Examines Alberta Perspectives on Federal Politics and Policy Priorities

Results from Scope’s recent Alberta survey provide a comprehensive snapshot of Albertans’ perspectives on the federal political landscape and current affairs. Findings suggest that Albertans are navigating a period of heightened economic concern, alongside distinct stances on federal political figures, cross-border relations, and other pressing policy areas.

“Respondents were a bit divided when it came to perceptions of trust and performance,” said Meghan O’Reilly, Lead Researcher at Scope. “However, overall Albertans show a continued preference for the federal Conservatives when it comes to voting intentions.”

Key Findings:

  • Federal Ballot Choice: When asked how they would vote in a federal election, 43% of respondents selected Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative Party, while 35% selected Mark Carney’s Liberal Party, and 11% selected Avi Lewis’ New Democratic Party.
  • Carney Government Performance: Views on Mark Carney’s performance as Prime Minister were split, with 46% feeling that he has done poorly and 39% feeling that he has done well.
  • US-Canada Relationship: Most respondents reported being at least somewhat concerned about Canada’s relationship with the US, including 52% who feel very concerned about it.
  • Social Media & Minors: When asked about the regulation of social media for minors, 46% feel this should be left up to parents to decide, whereas 41% feel the government should ban social media for those under 16.

About the Survey

From July 30 to August 4, 2026, Scope Research conducted an online survey targeting Albertans aged 18 years or older. 806 responses were collected and respondents were invited to participate via SMS text. Results were weighted by age and gender to ensure the sample reflects the demographic makeup of Alberta’s population. The margin of error for a comparable probability-based sample would be ±3%, 19 times out of 20.
