NDP caucus meeting in Toronto ahead of Fall Session

The federal NDP caucus will gather in Toronto in September to set their priorities for the parliamentary fall session.

Their meeting will be held September 8 to 10.

The focus will be on “tackling the cost of living crisis” and “protecting Canadians from the fallout from the trade war”, the party said in a news release today.

NDP Leader Avi Lewis and NDP MPs will also meet with people in Toronto to hear directly about affordability challenges.

Last week, Lewis had a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney about affordability and how the Employment Insurance system needs a major overhaul.

Five NDP MPs

In a Liberal majority House of Commons, the NDP has five seats in the House of Commons, held by Don Davies, Leah Gazan, Gord Johns, Jenny Kwan, and Heather McPherson.

Quebec seats

Now former NDP MP Alexandre Boulerice resigned his Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie seat a few months ago, to participate in provincial Quebec politics.

A by-election is being held today in the Montreal-area riding of Chicoutimi—Le Fjord where the NDP candidate is Raphaël Émond.

NDP Leader Lewis spent 20 days in Quebec in July, meeting voters and brushing up on his French.
